Dr. Moore graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas
A&M University, and the University Of Tennessee Medical
School. Following an internship at Hermann Hospital, he served
as captain and flight surgeon in the U.S. Army between 1964
and 1966. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the
University Texas Medical Branch Houston.
In 1974, Dr. Moore became one of the leading innovators in
lens implant surgery. From 1974 to 1979, Dr. Moore served
as National Medical Director of Intermedics Inc. and helped
train thousands of ophthalmologists in the U.S. and abroad
in advancing techniques of intraocular lens implants surgery.
Dr. Moore’s interest in refractive surgery first
manifested itself in 1979. He conducted courses on visual
optics at the American Academy of Ophthalmology from 1972-1982.
He has been a frequent speaker at the American Society of
Refractive and Cataract Surgery, the ISRS and many ophthalmologic
associations in the U.S. and throughout the world. In
addition, he is the author of at least 50 published articles
about lens implant, ocular surface and refractive surgery.
His dedication to teaching and the development of young
physicians is well documented. He was one of the core investigators
in the National Laser In-situ Kertomileusis (LASIK) study
(CRS/USA). This research was instrumental in getting LASIK
approved in the U.S. in October 1998.
The LASIK Institute honored him in 1999 and 2000
as a pioneer in refractive surgery. He was also granted
the responsibility of training the first Summit/Autonomous
LASIK Fellowship in July 2000. In March 2003, Dr. Moore incorporated
CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) into his practice. This was a
huge leap forward for those who want to be less dependent
on reading glasses or bifocals.
Dr. Moore works closely with many International doctors and
has been involved with the study of Wave Front Lasik procedures
since 2000. In 2004, Dr. Moore was the first physician in
the world presented with the Global Ambassador Award by the
leading German laser manufacturer, WaveLight, Inc. Dr. Moore
was recognized for his dedication and involvement in the advancement
of refractive surgery and for his leadership in introducing
new technology to physicians around the world. His unrelenting
support and dedication of new technology has earned him the
position of National Medical Advisor by Wavelight, Inc. Today,
he is one of the most experienced users of this state-of-the-art
technology.
At present, Dr. Moore is involved in ongoing data research
for the U.S. FDA approval of advanced technology to help people
with previous refractive surgeries or irregularities of the
cornea who can not presently benefit from our current technology.
Aside from Dr. Moore’s dedication to the field of ophthalmology,
he also supports many charitable organizations such as the
Special Olympics, United Cerebal Palsy, and the Boys and Girls
Club of America.
